Last week, a new record was set for the tallest sunflower ever. The record flower, located in Germany, measured a length of 9,17 meter (30 feet 1 inch). See the video below.
Despite being damaged by hail, the flower continued to grow. With the help of the fire department the flower could be measured. The giant sunflower is grown by Hans-Peter Schiffer who was the previous record holder as well.
How to grow such a large sunflowers?
- Sow many and select the best seedlings
- Use the best seeds of the previous year
- Perfect hydration (ideally by supply of groundwater)
- Good support
- Fertilizer based on potato residu mix
For most areas sunflowers can be sown until june.
